Trick or Treat on Main

Gentry businesses will host Trick or Treat on Main Street on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Last year approximately 1,500 trick or treaters visited Main Street for the event. Businesses are urged to team with other businesses, if necessary, to provide enough treats for all who participate.

OCH Halloween Festival

Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette will hold a Halloween Festival from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, “when kids can trick-or-treat down the halls of the hospital while participating in fun activities along the way.” Free food and drink will be provided and many fun activities will be provided for those attending. A food drive is being conducted in connection with the festival and donation boxes will be provided at the hospital, with all donations going to the local Feed My Sheep food pantry.

Gravette Trunk or Treat

A trunk or treat event will be held at the Church on the Hill parking lot, Arkansas Highway 72 east, Gravette, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31. Candy, caramel apples, hot cider and hot chocolate will be available at the event.

Methodist Trunk or Treat

United Methodist Church in Gravette will hold its annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event for area children in the church parking lot between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. on Halloween night, Oct. 31.

Maysville Trunk or Treat

The Maysville Missionary Baptist Church is hosting its annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31. It will be at the church parking lot and will start at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to share the fun.

Family Fall Festival

Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette will be hosting its Family Fall Festival Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This is a free event open to children up through fifth grade, with their families. Children may wear appropriate costumes if they wish. Food, games and lots of goodies will be available.

Halloween Set Oct. 31

Gravette Mayor Byron Warren has designated Wednesday, Oct. 31, as the official date for Gravette children and citizens to observe Halloween. The city wishes everyone to have a safe andfun celebration of the annual holiday.

Hunter Education

A hunter education program is being planned for 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Gentry High School Cafeteria. Registration information for the course is available at the Gentry Public Library, 736-2054.

Glenn Duffy Fall Festival

The annual fall festival at Glenn Duffy Elementary in Gravette will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the school. Games for the kids will include football throw, peanut pitch, lollipop tree, duck pond, bingo, ring toss and many more. Players will win prizes and candy. There will be a costume contest by age and grade (no scary costumes, please) and a cake walk. Great baskets will be available for bid at the silent auction. A chili supper will be served at a cost of $4 for those 12 and older, $3 for ages 5-11, and 4 and under free with an adult purchase. Everyone is welcome.

Harvest Baptist Revival

Revival meetings at Harvest Baptist Church will be held at 7 p.m. nightly, Nov. 4-9, on Main Street in Gravette. Evangelist Jack Bedford will be preaching, and his wife Vickie will be leading the song service. Each night the service will have a special appreciation focus for the community. Monday is “law enforcement appreciation night” in which the church will recognize local police and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office for their service to the community. Tuesday is firefighter/EMS appreciation night. Wednesday is youth/ kids night. Thursday the church will recognize the city of Gravette, and on Friday, the church will recognize the teachers from the local school system.

Community Thanksgiving

A community-wide Thanksgiving service for Gentry and the surrounding area will be held at 6 p.m., Nov. 18, in the Springtown First Pentecostal Church. The Gentry Ministerial Alliance, which is sponsoring the event, would like to invite everyone to join in this time of corporate worship and fellowship. Special music will be provided by several area churches. Wes Bennett, pastor of the Gentry First Assembly of God Church, will deliver the message. Refreshments will be served following the service. WCTU Meeting

There will be a meeting of the northwest Arkansas chapter of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16. The purpose of the meeting is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. The meeting will be held in the home of one of the members, at 10896 Northfork Drive, just off Mount Olive Drive between Decatur and Gravette. Chili Supper

The Gentry Masonic Lodge will hold its annual chili supper and dessert from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at the lodge hall, 1429 Gentry Blvd., Gentry. All proceeds will go to the Masonic Scholarship Fund.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s November and December city council meetings have been moved from their usual dates on the second Monday of each month due to conflicts with Veterans Day and the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. The November meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13. The December meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. For more information, call 752-3912.

Gentry Recycling Event

McKee Foods in Gentry will be holding an America Recycles event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday , Nov. 14, and 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Little Debbie Store parking lot (at the corner of Main Street and Arkansas Highway 59). For a $10 donation to the United Way of Gentry, area residents may bring an unlimited amount of electronics for recycling and paper for shredding. Electronic items accepted will be computers, cameras, printers, copiers, telephones, stereos, televisions, fax machines, electronic cables, paper shredders, microwaves, DVD and VCR players, video game consoles,satellite receivers, and handheld devices such as Pads and iPods. Paper which may be brought for shredding includes office paper, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, telephone books and paperback books. Free Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies will be given to all participants. The two-day event is sponsored by McKee Foods, United Way of Gentry, eSCO Processing and Recycling, Shred-It and the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

Maysville Food Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts, every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Praise and Worship

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church holds a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. every third Sunday night, with refreshments following.

Gravette Community Choir

The Gravette Community Choir is rehearsing each Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church on Hwy. 72 west of town. Persons interested in performing as singers or actors should contact Gabra Stewart at [email protected] or call 787-1010. The musical drama “One Quiet Night” will be performed Dec. 1.

Veteran’s Day Program

The Gravette High School E.A.S.T. is preparing a film to be shown during the annual Veteran’s Day program which will be held at the school Nov. 9. The film is one of the highlights which remind citizens of the sacrifices and service veterans have given. All veterans in the area are invited to the program. Veterans who would be willing to give a short interview for the film are asked to contact the school or respond at [email protected].

Tastes of Holidays

Tastes of the Holidays will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 4, at the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd., Gentry. Samples of unique holiday foods, from breads to desserts, will be available. Ten different table decorationswill be on display. A free recipe booklet of foods sampled will be provided to all who attend. Admission is free. The church is located east of Gentry on Highway 12 and south on Fairmount Rd.

GED Classes

GED classes meet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gravette Public Library. The classes are provided by the NWACC adult education program, which also administers the official GED test at the Center in Rogers. Classes will continue on the above scheduled days through Dec. 14. Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the McKee Community Room at the Gentry Public Library. Guests are welcome.

Gravette American Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 20 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend. The next meeting is Nov. 20.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gentry Christmas Parade

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is the theme of the annual Christmas celebration slated for Dec. 8. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection just west of the railroad tracks and travel west to the Gentry City Park. There is no preregistration or cost to be in the parade. There will be float awards for the best music, best theme representation, best lights and a grand prize for the best overall. For additional information, contact Bev Saunders at 736-2358.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship Gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings

Decatur VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Volleyball Fundraiser

Decatur Middle School Student Council will be sponsoring a volleyball game on Friday between the teachers and students to raise money for the United Way of Northwest Arkansas. Students will be able to contribute money to vote for which grade level they would like to see compete against the teacher. They will also be able to buy votes to select which teacher they would like to get a pie in the face. Students can place their donations to vote for teachers or grade levels in jars in the cafeteria before school or during the lunch hour. The events will be held from 12:35 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. and students will be charged $0.50 to watch the entertainment. The student council will also be selling refreshments during the event. All proceeds from the two events will go towards the United Way of Northwest Arkansas.
