Trail vandalized

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

— Vandalism occurred early last week at the Nature Walking Trail in the Pop Allum Park in Gravette.

Metal signs were bent, trail markers were destroyed and a heavy plexiglass door of the trail entrance information sign was destroyed.

The trail is located at the south end of the park where a section of fence at the main baseball field was also damaged.

Allyson Ransom, director of communications for the city of Gravette and a driving force for the walking trail project, expressed disappointment that anyone would deliberately do such damage.

Major work, including paving and expanding of the nature trail, was completed earlier this year through a grant obtained by Ransom. A cost estimate of the damage will amount to several hundred dollars, she indicated.

This does not include damage to the chain link fence on the south side of the ball fields, which appeared to be deliberately hit by ramming it with a vehicle.

Anyone with information concerning the crimes is asked to contact the Gravette Police Department.
