Three Gravette students attend FCCLA conference

— GRAVETTE - Three Gravette High School students and their advisor were among more than 7,000 attending the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) conference held in early July in Orlando, Fla.

Kayla Harrelson, Tanner Bryson and Ashleigh Horn, with their advisor, Seanne Sain, participated in the national meeting which was termed a “reality check conference of firsts which tapped into a world of social media and which provided unique opportunities to take advantage of recent changes in technology.”

During the five-day conference, the participants downloaded the new FCCLA app which provided information about the conference, such as speakers, workshops and updates. In addition, the girls were able to give the national FCCLA staff instant feedback on the workshops, exhibitors and speakers.

A number of relevant youth issues, such as dealing with bullying, developing leadership skills, college survival and obesity prevention, were among the presentations, workshops and youth sessions.

There were 31 different STAR events, designed to build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills, available for consideration.

Kayla, Tanner and Ashleigh earned bronze medals in the culinary arts events.

Other highlights at the meeting included donation of $37,270 to Share Our Strength and 20,091 pairs of shoes (2,533 from Arkansas) presented to the Soles4Souls project.

Among the 10 FCCLAvisor Seanne Sain accompanied the students and said in addition to family and friends, numerous community members made this trip possible, including the Gravette School Board and administration.
