Smith receives royal award

— Shannon Smith, of Gentry, became the second local youth to ever receive the Royal Rangers E3 award.

Royal Rangers is a program for boys, similar to Boy Scouts, sponsored by the Assembly of God Church. The E3 Award is the top accolade for the Expedition Rangers - the highest level of the Royal Rangers program.

Smith, 17, was presented the award during a ceremony at the Decatur Assemblyof God last Wednesday. His parents, Nickie and Cheryl Smith, were present to help him receive the award.

“It took great persistence and determination to complete all the requirements for the E3 Award during your high school years when so many other activities are available to you on a weekly basis,” Royal Rangers National Director Douglas Marsh wrote in an award letter. “I know that your family and leaders, who have helped and encouraged you along the way, are quite proud right now.”
