Former Decatur teachers and students are invited to a retirement reception for Kim Browning, who taught in the Decatur School District for more than 30 years. Temperance Union Meets

There will be a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Woman’s Christian Temperance Union at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. This is a meeting of the local chapter of the WCTU, which is a worldwide organization of women concerned about the destructive power of alcohol and the problems it causes their families and society. The purpose of the meetings is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. A topic of discussion for the meeting will be the upcoming ballot initiative which would increase the supply of alcohol in Benton County. Stress-free Living Series

Richard Green will give the final lecture in his series on living a stress-free life in stressful times, at the First Baptist Church, 200 S. Duff St., Sulphur Springs, at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19. Mt. Pleasant Yard Sale

The Mt. Pleasant Youth Group will be holding a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, on the parking lot just north of the Bank of Gravett. Proceeds will go to help needy children at Christmas.

NAGS Meeting

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main Street. The Benton County Preservation Group will present a program including an update on current preservation projects, cooperative efforts with local Scout troops, volunteers supporting Araknsasgravestones. org with digital photographs and general information on area cemeteries in need of adoption. Brian Arnold Concert

Brian Arnold from the Branson, Mo., area, will be giving a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Victory Baptist Church in Gentry. Admission is free but a love offering will be taken. Church pastor Dennis Taylorand congregation invite all to attend.

Revelation Book Study

The public is invited to a study of the book of Revelation being conducted on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Beacon Missionary Baptist Church. The study is led by Bro. Larry Hendren, former BMAA missionary to Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cape Verde Islands and Portugal.

E.H. Club Yard Sale

Highfill Haydaze

Highfill Haydaze will be held on Oct. 6 at the Highfill City Park with the band Straight Line performing in the evening. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Care & Share Vouchers

Care and Share has changed their voucher procedure. Vouchers will be issued only on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Care and Share Specialty Shop, 103 Huntington Street S.E., off Hwy. 59 South in Gravette. In an emergency, appointments may be made. Call 344-6114.

Springtown Cemetery

The annual meeting of the Springtown Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Springtown City Hall. Election of officers will be held and annual reports, including financial, will be given.

Decatur High

Jolly Good Times Club

The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Members will gather at 10:15 a.m. in the sitting room. The potluck meal will feature a meat dish from Susan, salad by Betty and dessert by Mary. Mary Griffin will give the program. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Booth Brothers Concert

The Booth Brothers will be making a return engagement to Gravette on Saturday, Oct. 20. The performance will be held at 1 p.m. at the GHS Performing Arts Center. This is the sixth year the well-known singing group has returned to Gravette. For information, contact Nola Linn at 787-6216, evenings.

Decatur School Board

Decatur School Board’s next meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 24, one week later than usual. School board meetings are held at 7 p.m., in the district’s professional development room.

First Annual Alumni Game

The Gentry Pioneers boys’basketball team will be holding an alumni basketball game for all Gentry Alumni. It will be played at the High School gym on Oct. 27 from 12 noon until whenever finished. The cost will be $25, which will include a T-shirt and a BBQ lunch. Tastes of the Holidays

Tastes of the Holidays is being planned for 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 4, at the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd., Gentry. Samples of unique holiday foods, from breads to desserts, will be available. Ten different table decorations will be on display. A free recipe booklet of foods sampled will be provided to all who attend. Admission is free. The church is located east of Gentry on Highway 12 and south on Fairmount Rd. A large church sign marks the driveway to the church which is up the hill on the east side of Fairmount Rd.

High School Yearbooks

The Gravette High School Yearbook Department currently has extra copies of yearbooks from years 2010, 2009, 2008, 2005-06, 2003, 2000, 1998, 1996 and 1995. The extra copies are being sold for $25 each in order to make room for future yearbooks. Hiwasse AWANA Club

First Baptist Church in Hiwasse announces AWANA Clubs continue each Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All are welcome. The program will serve children in three age groups: Cubbies (3 and 4), Sparks (K-3rd grade) and Truth and Training (4th - 6th grade). Nightly activities include food, singing, counsel time, handbook time, game time and individual achievement awards. There is no charge. Bus pick-up is available. For information, call 270-0127.

AWANA Begins

AWANA is a new children’s ministry at Heritage Baptist Church. AWANA is a children’s club for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday at Heritage Baptist Church, 307 4th Ave. SE, Gravette. The club engages children in game time, singing, Bible stories and the memorization of Bible verses. All children are welcome. A light dinner will be served between 6 and 6:30 p.m. each night for children who may need it. Patch the Pirate Club meets weekly during the school year at the Berean Ministries building, one block south of Kindley Park. Gayla Hendrenand Hope Duke are the instructors. The club focuses on teaching Bible lessons and music, along with games, crafts, special events, water games, awards and more throughout the year. HIPPY Enrollment

HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) is now enrolling 3 and 4 year olds. HIPPY is a 30-week school-readiness, parent-involvement program for parents of 3 and 4 year olds. Supplies, books and lessons are delivered to your home on a weekly basis. A home-based educator works with the parent, who in turn works with the child about 15 minutes per day. HIPPY is funded by the state and local school districts, so there is no cost. Once a month there is group play time to allow the children to meet other children their age. Preschoolers must be 3 by August 1. Enrolling is easy but space is limited. Translators are available in the Decatur and Gravette area. Gentry Farmers’ Market

Gentry’s farmers’ market is open on Mondays and Thursdays, beginning at 8 a.m., at the south side of the Gentry City Park. The market is open, free of fees, to all vendors who abide by the market’s rules. Items which may be sold at the market include fresh produce, plants and flowers, baked goods, jellies, jams, preserves, eggs, other noncommercial food items and handmade crafts.` Gravette Farmers’ Market

Gravette GED Classes

GED classes meet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gravette Public Library. The classes are provided by the NWACC adult education program, which also administers the official GED test at the Center in Rogers. Classes will continue on the above scheduled days from Aug. 20 to Dec. 14. For information, call the library at 787-6955.

Bow Raffle

As a part of its fund-raising activities to benefit programs serving children in the local communities, the Gravette Kiwanis Club will be awarding a Diamond Dead Eye Compound Bow by Bowtech. The bow, donated by Hook, Line & Sinker at Bentonville, is valued at $699 and will be given away Oct. 19 during a Lions football game. Tickets are $5, or three for $10, and are available at many local businesses.

PonyDotz

PonyDotz is an organization for children and young people to learn about horses and have fun together. Programs will include youth trail rides, confidence-building games, learning the basics of horsemanship, water play, and lunch. NWA Riding Club

NWA Riding Club play days are held every other week at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, 4.5 miles west of Gentry. Events include western pleasure, pole bending, flag races, barrel racing and speed races for all ages of riders, with an emphasis on kidfriendly family fun. Tops Meetings

Tired Iron of the Ozarks

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry. The next meeting will be on Oct. 16.

Gravette American Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 20 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All vets are encouraged to attend. The next meeting is Oct. 16.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road. GHS Pageants

The Mr. and Miss Gravette High School Pageant will be held on Sept. 29th at 1:45 p.m. in the GHS Preforming Arts Center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for persons under 18, children under age 3 are free. Three titles will be awarded; Mr./ Miss GHS ($250 scholarship each), Mr./Miss Lion Pride (congeniality), and Mr./Miss Lions Choice (fund-raising initiative). Contestants will be seeking monetary votes to help determine the winner of Mr. and Miss Lions Choice prior to and during the pageant. Pageant proceeds fund Parent-Teacher- Organization-sponsored events to include Quarterly Chill-Outs (rewards to honor roll students), PTO scholarships ($1,500 annually), Teacher Appreciation initiatives, the homecoming dance and more.
