— Drug Disposal

The twice-a-year pickup of unused prescription or over-the-counter drugs, loose or in packages, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Gravette Police Station. Drugs will not be accepted at other times or dates until the next collection event is held.

Coat Drive in Gentry

Turning Point Fellowship in Gentry is collecting coats for neighbors in need. All sizes for men, women, teens and children are needed. Coats may be dropped off at Gentry Bank and Gentry Post Office during business hours. Donations will be accepted until Oct. 29. Coats will be put to good use immediately on Nov. 2 to keep community members warm. Coats must be clean because no funds or facilities are available to wash them. OCH Coat Drive

A winter coat drive to assist Gravette families is being conducted by the Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette. New or gently-used coats of all types and sizes may be dropped off at the hospital front entrance until Oct. 1. Additional donations are welcome. Teacher Retirement

Former Decatur teachers and students are invited to a retirement reception for Kim Browning, who taught in the Decatur School District for more than 30 years. The drop-in reception will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Oct. 4, in the Decatur Community Building. For more information, call the elementary school office at 752-3981.

GHS Volunteer Training

All Gravette High School parents and community volunteers are encouraged to attend the annual Volunteer Training. In order to accommodate various schedules, the training will be provided at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. The training will be held in the Gravette High School Library. Those unable to attend either session may call Janna Sharp, GHS Parental Involvement coordinator, at 787-4193, to schedule an evening training.

Gospel Singing

The OK Gospel Singing, with Anthony Gann, will be held at Plainview Baptist Church (5 mi. east and 1/4 mi. south of Jay, Okla.) at 7 p.m., Sept. 29. All are welcome.

Temperance Union Meets

There will be a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Woman’s Christian Temperance Union at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. This is a meeting of the local chapter of the WCTU, which is a worldwide organization of women concerned about the destructive power of alcohol and the problems it causes their families and society. The purpose of the meetings is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. A topic of discussion for the meeting will be the upcoming ballot initiative which would increase the supply of alcohol in Benton County. The meeting will be held in the home of one of the members, at 10896 Northfork Drive, just off Mount Olive Drive between Decatur and Gravette. Brian Arnold Concert

Brian Arnold from the Branson, Mo., area, will be giving a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Victory Baptist Church in Gentry. Admission is free but a love offering will be taken. Church pastor Dennis Taylor and congregation invite all to attend.

Veteran’s Day Program

The Gravette High School E.A.S.T. is preparing a film to be shown during the annual Veteran’s Day program which will be held at the school November 9. The film is one of the highlights which remind citizens of the sacrifices and service veterans have given. All veterans in the area are invited to the program. Revelation Book Study

The public is invited to a study of the book of Revelation being conducted on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Beacon Missionary Baptist Church. The study is led by Bro. Larry Hendren, former BMAA missionary to Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cape Verde Islands and Portugal.

E.H. Club Yard Sale

Highfill Haydaze

Highfill Haydaze will be held on Oct. 6 at the Highfill City Park with the band Straight Line performing in the evening. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Care and Share Change

Care and Share has changed their voucher procedure. Vouchers will be issued only on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Care and Share Specialty Shop, 103 Huntington Street S.E., off Hwy. 59 South in Gravette. In an emergency, appointments may be made. Call 344-6114.

Decatur High

Jollly Good Times Club

The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Billy V.Hall Senior Activity Center. Members will gather at 10:15 a.m. in the sitting room. The potluck meal will feature a meat dish from Susan, salad by Betty and dessert by Mary. Mary Griffin will give the program. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Booth Brothers Concert

The Booth Brothers will be making a return engagement to Gravette on Saturday, Oct. 20. The performance will be held at 1 p.m. at the GHS Performing Arts Center. This is the sixth year the well-known singing group has returned to Gravette. For information, contact Nola Linn at 787-6216, evenings.

First Annual Alumni Game

The Gentry Pioneers boys’ basketball team will be holding an alumni basketball game for all Gentry Alumni. It will be played at the High School gym on Oct. 27 from 12 noon until whenever finished. The cost will be $25, which will include a T-shirt and a BBQ lunch. Tastes of the Holidays

Tastes of the Holidays is being planned for 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 4, at the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd., Gentry. Samples of unique holiday foods, from breads to desserts, will be available. Ten different table decorations will be on display. A free recipe booklet of foods sampled will be provided to all who attend. Admission is free. The church is located east of Gentry on Highway 12 and south on Fairmount Rd. A large church sign marks the driveway to the church which is up the hill on the east side of Fairmount Rd.

Hiwasse AWANA Club

First Baptist Church in Hiwasse announces AWANA Clubs continue each Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All are welcome. The program serves children in three age groups: Cubbies (3 and 4), Sparks (K-3rd grade) and Truth and Training (4th - 6th grade). Nightly activities include food, singing, counsel time, handbook time, game time and individual achievement awards. There is no charge. Bus pick-up is available. For information, call 270-0127.

AWANA Begins

AWANA is a new children’s ministry at Heritage Baptist Church. AWANA is a children’s club for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday at Heritage Baptist Church, 307 4th Ave. SE, Gravette. The club engages children in game time, singing, Bible stories and the memorization of Bibleverses. All children are welcome. A light dinner will be served between 6 and 6:30 p.m. each night for children who may need it. Patch the Pirate Club

Patch the Pirate Club meets weekly during the school year at the Berean Ministries building, one block south of Kindley Park. Gayla Hendren and Hope Duke are the instructors. All children, kindergarten through sixth grade, are invited to join the fun. The club focuses on teaching Bible lessons and music, along with games, crafts, special events, water games, awards and more throughout the year. Gentry Farmers’ Market

Gentry’s farmers’ market is open on Mondays and Thursdays, beginning at 8 a.m., at the south side of the Gentry City Park (outside the wooden fence and along the circle drive). The market is open, free of fees, to all vendors who abide by the market’s rules (available at the Gentry City Hall or Gentry Chamber of Commerce office). Items which may be sold at the market include fresh produce, plants and flowers, baked goods, jellies, jams, preserves, eggs, other non-commercial food items and handmade crafts.` Gravette Farmers’ Market

Gravette GED Classes

GED classes meet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gravette Public Library. The classes are provided by the NWACC adult education program, which also administers the official GED test at the Center in Rogers. Bow Raffle

As a part of its fund-raising activities to benefit programs serving children in the local communities, the Gravette Kiwanis Club will be awarding a Diamond Dead Eye Compound Bow by Bowtech. The bow, donated by Hook, Line & Sinker at Bentonville, is valued at $699 and will be given away Oct. 19 during aLions football game. Tickets are $5, or three for $10, and are available at many local businesses.

PonyDotz

PonyDotz is an organization for children and young people to learn about horses and have fun together. Programs will include youth trail rides, confidence-building games, learning the basics of horsemanship, water play, and lunch. NWA Riding Club

NWA Riding Club play days are held every other week at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, 4.5 miles west of Gentry. Events include western pleasure, pole bending, flag races, barrel racing and speed races for all ages of riders, with an emphasis on kid-friendly family fun. Tops Meetings

Tired Iron of the Ozarks

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor OrchardRoad southwest of Gentry. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Gravette American Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 20 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All vets are encouraged to attend. The next meeting is Oct. 16.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur United Methodist Church offers a food pantry program and a commodity food program for residents in Decatur from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly Men's Fellowship Gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are encouraged to come for the food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings

Decatur VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.
