63 compete at Hosa conference held in Hot Springs last Month

GRAVETTE - Sixty three students from the Gravette Health Science Technology Education Program traveled to Hot Springs March 13-15 to compete in the Arkansas Hosa state conference.

"All of our students did very well,” said Angela Scott, GHS health science technology instructor.

Fifteen students competed in written tests, resulting in nine medals. Thirty-three of thirty four students who were in two round events with skill rounds advanced to the second round, resulting in sixteen medals. Fourteen students were in presentation events (Public Service Announcement team of five, three students in Researched Persuasive Speaking, Three students in Medical Photography and one student in Extemporaneous Health Poster), resulting in five medals. The overall medal count was 30, the most of all area schools.

State medalists are: Gold (14) - Chay McDaniel, Nutrition; Megan McAfee, Dental Science; Christina Bramel, Veterinary Science; Damayla Cowan, Life Support Skills; Amy Smith, Epidemiology; Saber Treat, Pathophysiology; Russell Sharp, Pharmacology; Josiah Morris, Home Health Aide; Peyton Scott and Madison Turner, CPR/ First Aid; Darrian Coffelt and Levi Franks, CERT; Brian Smithers and Lacey Newell, Forensic Science; Jayla Brown, Medical Photography; Austin Thompson, Brennen Austin, Brandon Madl, Samantha Pruitt, Destaney Wishon, PSA; and Skyler Warren, Researched Persuasive Speaking.

Silver (10) - T.J. Holt, Medical Spelling; Colton Holland, Pathophysiology; Rian Austin, Pharmacology; Maddie Foster, Nursing Assisting; Chasen Root, Biotechnology; Jacob Bookout, Sports Medicine; Katelyn Regalado, Veterinary Science; Chase Brody and Jessica Bayley, CPR/First Aid; Marlie Ball and Holli McDonald, Forensic Science; and Cristina Guerra, Extemporaneous Health Poster.

Bronze (6) - Meagan Ward, Human Growth and Behavior; Anna Huckaby, Epidemiology; Bryce Moorman, Biotechnology; Kinsley Hurtt, Home Health Aide; Avery Burrow and Savannah Hittson, CERT; and Brenna Sullivan, Medical Photography.

Brittany Lovell, Biomedical Engineering Instructor, also attended the conference in her first year as a hosa advisor with Angela Scott, who is in her thirteenth competition year with Gravette hosa. Forty students have qualified to compete at the National hosa Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 25-30.
