'My Collection' exhibit draws many to museum

GRAVETTE - The Gravette museum hosted its second annual “My Collection” exhibit recently at which 21 exhibitors showed their private collection to more than 100 guests.

Branding irons, tatting, salt and pepper shakers, carved egg shells, state plates and costume jewelry were just a few of the exhibits shown.

Ron Pile’s vintage ice tools, which included an “Icy Ball,” an early invention used to cool food in homes, received the People’s Choice Award.

Most of the exhibitors were from the Gravette area, but two traveled from Eureka Springs and Lowell to participate. The Sulphur Springs Museum was also represented with items from its museum which included a rare Sulphur Springs water bottle.

The museum raised more than $400 through its “Split the Cash” drawing, donations and a barbecue lunch provided by the Bank of Gravett.

“We are pleased with this year’s event which provided visitors a chance to see items of both historical significance as well as some very unique items. It also stimulates interest in both history and collecting,” said museum commission member Steve Mitchael.

The museum plans to host the event again next year and is seeking and inviting exhibitors to the show.

There is no admission to the museum, which is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Call 787-7334 for hours or to arrange special appointments.

"Visit your museum today,” Mitchael added.
