FBLA students learn skills

GRAVETTE - Eighteen Gravette High School Future Business Leaders of America students recently boarded a bus with Mrs. Paula Almond to attend the FBLA District VII spring leadership conference at the U of A Global Campus. Haley House, district reporter, and advisor Harry Almond were already in Fayetteville for pre-conference duties.

Upon arriving in downtown Fayetteville, the students were directed to testing locations or workshop rooms.

The workshops provided information on the March of Dimes, Interviewing tips and tricks, Tweet what?, Dress for success, Square, circles and squiggles, Oh My!, Tips and tricks for running for office and Cyber Safety. Presenters were Ms. Margaret Donohue from March of Dimes, Ms. Erica Keller, consumer lending vice president of Arvest Bank, Ms. Melissa Williams, managing editor for 40/29 news, Ron Parrish, manager of Men’s Warehouse, and the District VII officers, Maggie Fancher, Rachel Ford and Emilia Barrick. The workshops were repeated three times during the day for convenience of students to attend their choice.

Following the first general session a Battle of Chapters was held and a talent show was enjoyed by all. Megan Ketcher from Elkins High school won the Battle of Chapters and a singing group from Greenland won the talent contest.

The following students competed in a presentation event or an objective test event. All places through sixth are eligible for state competition.

Aubree Garrett, third, business law; Lindsee La-Brecque, third, healthcare administration; Emma Roman, third, introduction to business; Kylee Davis, third, introduction to technology concepts; Josh Lockhart and Cody Robinson, third, business ethics; Noah Smith, fourth, public speaking II;

Wyatt Gibbons, fifth, economics; Marlie Ball, fifth, hospitality management; Emily Cole, sixth, business communication; Alex Lovell, help desk; Jacquelynn Janes, client service. Other competitors were: Jaye Chalk, business math; Jayla Brown and Tatiana Polydore, business presentation; and Zach Deatherage, sports management.
