Gravette High Open House

Gravette High School open house will be on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. During open house, students and parents will receive important information to start off a great school year. Students will receive their class schedule and locker assignment. Families are encouraged to visit with teachers and ask questions. Parents are also encouraged to visit the Library Media Center (Room 129) to learn more about the new state grading program. Even though Pinnacle continues to automatically send email notifications, grades and attendance will be recorded through Teacher Access Connection in the new Eschool program. In order to access Home Access Connection, parents must set up a new account with their personal information.

Back to School Bash

First Baptist Church of Hiwasse will host an Awanas “Back to School Bash” on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church. Area students are invited to attend and enjoy the evening with infl atable rides and free hot dogs. Free haircuts will also be provided. A limited number of school supplies will be available for early arrivals. Sign-up for Awanas Club fall membership will also be open. For more informaton, call James Porter at 903-3370.

Wilmoth Reception

Evelyn Wilmoth and her family invite area residents to the First Baptist Church in Gravette to help celebrate the last 40 years of her daycare and preschool in Gravette. The reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. This is a come and go event.

Library Book Sale

The used book sale at the Gravette Public Library is continuing through the summer. $1 will buy a bag full of good reading. For more information, contact the library at 787-6955.

The storytime program at Gravette Public Library continues each Tuesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. This storytime is for pre-kindergarten children.

Gravette Class of 1956

Members of the Gravette High School Class of 1956 are invited to meet and visit after the Gravette Days parade, Aug. 10, at the Berean Ministries Church, at 303 Birmingham, S.E., in Gravette.

Class of ‘54 Reunion

Gravette High School Class of 1954 is planning a reunion for Gravette Day weekend. Class members will get together at Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse in Rogers at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9. They will ride in the parade on Saturday and have dinner at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Village Inn in Bentonville. For information, call Betty Jackson Harryman at 417-529-1600.

Class of ‘63 Reunion

Gravette High School Class of 1963 reunion will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at Danny Boling’s barn on Highway 72 east of Gravette. Gravette classes of ‘62, ‘63, ‘64 and ‘65 will meet that evening and any Gravette alumni are welcome to drop by. The Class of ‘63 will provide food but others may bring drinks, chips and desserts if they wish. Saturday night, Aug. 10, a catered dinner will be held at the Boling barn for Class of ‘63 alumni and spouses only. Class of ‘68 Reunion

Members of the Gravette High School Class of 1968 will meet at the parade start location to ride in the parade. After the parade, they will meet at the Gravette Assembly of God Church at 11:30 a.m. for lemonade, cookies and a visit. On Saturday evening, they will gather at 6:30 at the home of Charlene Yingst - 13040 Riders Lane - Gravette - for fun and to share memories.Drinks and food will be provided. Siloam Springs Hospital Auxiliary, Inc., will be collecting new socks for children ages kindergarten through high school in the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital Lobby at 603 N. Progress Ave. until Aug. 19. Donations of new socks may be dropped off in the collection basket from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays-Fridays. All donations will go to students in need. Gentry Class of ‘84

Members of the Gentry High School Class of 1984 are in the early stages of planning a 30-year reunion for some time in 2014. This upcoming gathering is not just for graduates of the Class of ’84, but also for anyone who was ever part of the class from kindergarten through 12th grade, including faculty. It is important that organizers have at least two points of contact for each person - mailing address, email, Facebook, phone number(s) - so that all class members and faculty can be reached with details of the upcoming reunion. The 8th Annual Hot Wheel Show & Swap Meet will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 10, at the Jay (Okla.) Community Center, 429 S.9th St., with special guest, HWC Chris from Los Angeles. Vendors from nine states with 75-80 tables of diecast cars will be on hand, including Hot Wheels, Redlines, Employee Cars, 1995-2012 Treasure Hunt Sets, Johnnie Lightnings and much more. Decatur United Methodist Church offers a community food bank from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month, at 230 Third Street. The food pantry requires identifi cation and proof that mail is received at an address in the 72722 zip code, such as a utility bill, rent deposit or bank statement. The USDA Commodity Program is also available. Proof of income is required. Those receiving food stamps are automatically qualifi ed with an acceptance letter.

Decatur Food Pantry

United Christian Charities has opened a food pantry in downtown Decatur, across from Decatur State Bank, for anyone needing food in the northwest Arkansas area. The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The point of contact is Tina Holt, 435-5699.

Feed My Sheep Hours

The Feed My Sheep food pantry in Gravette is open each Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A pantry program is available that has no income guidelines, and the pantry also offers the USDA Commodity Program which is income based. Interested parties are encouraged to go to the pantry located at 303Third Avenue SW in Gravette and visit with the pantry staff regarding eligibility for these programs or call 787-6700 for more information.

Maysville Food Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts, every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Church Singing

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Praise and Worship

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church holds a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. every third Sunday night, with refreshments following. Tired Iron of the Ozarks

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 20.

Gravette American Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 20 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend. The next meeting is August 20.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the fi rst Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Men’s Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men’s fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings Decatur

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the fi rst Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.
