Hendren announces bid for representative’s seat

— Former state senator, Kim Hendren, told the Westside Eagle Observer he would announce his candidacy for Arkansas State Representative, District 92, Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Benton County Republican Committee meeting which was to be held at the VFW hut in Siloam Springs at 7 p.m.

District 92 includes Decatur, Gravette, Maysville, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and the western half of Bella Vista. This area was a portion of Hendren’s Senate district before he was term limited in 2012. He has two terms of eligibility in the House.

“I have always believed the state legislature should be a citizen’s legislature, with legislators serving only part-time while returning home to conduct their business, profession or career,” Hendren said. “There is always a life before and after politics, and there should be one during politics also. When I returned home after my last Senate session, I planned to spend time on my farm, my businesses and with my wife and 14 grandchildren. I have been encouraged by numerous former and present legislators, businessmen and friends to run for this open state representative seat. Perhaps age does bring a perspective and wisdom that will be benefi cial as Arkansas continues to grow.”

Hendren has served a combined total of 14 years in the state House and Senate over the past 34 years, spending time when not an elected offi cial to operate several area businesses, as well as his poultry and cattle farm.

Gravette mayor, Byron Warren, has indicated he will be a candidate for the representative position. Gravette businessman, Kurt Maddox, has also announced his candidacy.
