Polls to remain closed in two local school elections

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

— No polling places will be open in the Gravette School District in the upcoming school election Tuesday, Sept. 17. This includes polling sites in Gravette, Sulphur Springs,Maysville, Hiwasse and Bella Vista.

Because there is no change proposed for the present 37.2 millage rate and the only school board position open for fi lling is uncontested, state law allows school districts to save the cost of openingpolling places. This procedure has been followed in previous elections when no changes are proposed. That amounts to a significant savings for the district.

The situation is the same in the Gentry School District, with no pollingplaces opening there in September.

Voters who wish may cast early ballots at offi ces of the county clerk in Bentonville, Rogers and Siloam Springs starting Tuesday, Sept. 10, and ending Monday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
