Gentry falls, Gravette wins in Nov. 19 games on the basketball court

— In a close contest, the Pioneers fell, 58-50, to the Elks in play at Elkins on Nov. 19.

Gentry was down by only two goals at the end of the first half, 27-23, but instead of being able to turn it around in the fi nal two quarters, the Elks added another four points to their lead.

Matt Juillerat led the Pioneers in scoring with 23, including two baskets outside the three-point line. He shot 100 percent at the free-throw line, three for three.

Dusty Haag picked up 15 points for the night, including one three-pointer and two at the free-throw line. Haag also led the Pioneers in rebounds, with three offensive and four defensive grabs.

The Pioneers were scheduled to play this week in the Greenland Classic at Greenland. They are also scheduled to playGreenland in Gentry on Dec. 10. On Dec. 13, Coronation night, they face Green Forest.

No results were available for the girls’ game against Elkins.

Gravette Girls Gravette 59 Eureka Springs 14

The Gravette girls ran all over Eureka Springs on Nov. 19, winning by a whopping 59-14 in the game.

The Lady Lions held their opponents scoreless in the fi rst quarter and allowed them only 4 points in the half, while they picked up 17 and 19 points respectively for a 36-4 half-time lead. The Gravette girls picked up another 18 in the third and 5 in the fourth.

Kylee Davis and Samantha Pruitt led Gravette in baskets, with 16 points and 14 points respectively. Davis sank four 3-pointers. Maddie Foster had 9 and Chasity Hubbard had 7 for the night. Davis alsoled in rebounds with six for the night.

Gravette Boys Gravette 78 Eureka Springs 72

On the boys’ side, the game was much closer; but Gravette still came away with the victory, 78-72, on Nov. 19.

While the Lions were up by two buckets at the end of the first, Eureka Springs came back in the second half to grab the lead, 37-36.

In the final two quarters, the Lions slowly built up a small lead, up by a basket at the end of three and by six points at the fi nal buzzer.

Otto Troutner led the Lions in points, with 34 for the night. Terence Pierce picked up 22, with four shots swished from behind the three-point line.

In rebounds, Troutner stole the show with 17, 15 of those on the defensive side. Cole Turner grabbed eight defensive rebounds for the Lions.
