Christmas Bazaar

The Decatur United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. Lunch will be a choice of soup, sandwich and dessert for $5. There will be crafts and gift vendor tables to shop from and also a bake sale. The community is invited to come and join in the fun and fellowship. All proceeds go to local charities.

Christmas Singspiration

The Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be holding a special “Christmas Singspiration” service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15. This will be a special time of musical worship and praise. Fellow-Christians are invited to bring a Christmas song, reading or poem. The church is located just north of the Gentry police station, at 104 North Collins. Dance Recital

Christian Rhythms Dance Studio’s upcoming Christmas recital is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Gravette Upper Elementary School’s cafeteria. Everyone is welcome to attend. All of the studio’s students, from ages 3-18, will be performing. Ticket cost for ages 12 and older is $7, or $6 and two cans of food. The extra dollar and cans of food will be donated to Gravette’s Share the Harvest Food Pantry. Children 11 and younger may attend for free. Hot chocolate, apple cider, water and cookies will be provided.

Temperance Union

There will be a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Woman’s Christian Temperance Union at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. This is a local chapter of the WCTU, a worldwide organization that was organized by women who were concerned about the destructive power of alcohol and the problems it was causing their families and society. The purpose of the meeting is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. The meeting will be held in the home of one of the members, at 10896 Northfork Drive, just off Mount Olive Drive between Decatur and Gravette. A special meeting of the Gravette City Council Committee of the Whole will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Gravette City Hall. Items on the agenda are the Gravette city budget, the recent wage-scale study and the legislative audit. All city meetings are open to the public.

“Cuts for Kim” Benefi t

A “Cuts for Kim” benefi t will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Shabby Chic Salon in the new strip mall in the south edge of Gravette. Three stylists will be on hand to give haircuts, and all proceeds will go to help Kim Pilgrim,who has been unable to work after complications from gall bladder surgery. Celebrating Jesus’ Birth

Pioneer Church of God(Holiness) will be holding a special service to celebrate the birth of Jesus at 11 a.m., Dec. 22. The children’s choir will help prepare hearts for this time of celebration. Conservation District

The regular meeting of the Benton County Conservation District will be held at the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service Center, in Bentonville, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. For further information about the meeting, contact Gail Sparks at 273-2622, ext. 3.

Love Lights A Tree

The annual Love Lights A Tree ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Gravette’s Centennial Park. Donations are being accepted for the Love Lights project, now in its 17th year. White lights will honor a person’s memory, red lights will honor survivors and blue lights will represent persons in the military or anyone you would like to remember during the holiday season. $5 suggested donations, which go to the American Cancer Society, may be sent to “Love Lights A Tree,” P.O. Box 116, Gravette, AR 72736 or given to Ruth Foster, Colleen Dickinson or Mary Beth Mitchell. Include your name, person you wish to honor and your relationship to the honoree.

GED Prep Classes

Free GED prep classes and testing are being held at the Gravette Library now through Dec. 13. Classes are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start any time and finish when they are ready. Call 986-6911 or simply show up to enroll in class.

Christmas Tea

First Baptist Church of Gentry will have its Christmas Tea on Dec. 7, at 9:30 a.m., in the fellowship hall. Ladies are invited to come and join in. Tickets are $3, and all profits will go to Lottie Moon. Don’t forget to bring a tea cup. For more information, call the church offi ce at 736-2646.

Gentry Lighting Contest

Gentry Chamber of Commerce is holding a Christmas outside lighting and decorating contest for all residents and businesses within the Gentry School District. The theme for the decorating contest is “Christmas” and participants are encouraged to be creative. Those participating are asked to have their décor in place before Dec. 10. Participants are also asked to call the Gentry Chamber of Commerce office at 736-2358 and advise of the address of the residence or business to be sure they will not be missed in the judging. There will be a grand champion and reserve champion winner in each group, residential and business. All four winners will get a yard sign to display in their front yard for bragging rights. The grand champion winners will also receive $100 in Gentry bucks, and the reserve champions will receive $50 from the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

Gentry Christmas Parade

Gentry’s annual Christmas Parade is at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. Lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. at Nelson Feed Store. The theme this year is “Christmas in Arkansas.” No pre-registration or entry fee is required and prizes will be awarded for best music, best lighting, best theme andbest overall. UCC Food Pantry

United Christian Charities has opened a food pantry in downtown Decatur, across from Decatur State Bank, for anyone needing food in the northwest Arkansas area. The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The point of contact is Tina Holt, 435-5699.

Maysville Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts, every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Church Singing

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Praise and Worship

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church holds a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. every third Sunday night, with refreshments following.

Tired Iron

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarksare held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse, located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome. Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

VFW Meetings Decatur

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the fi rst Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road.

Concert Cancelled

The Bella Vista concert in observance of the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, which brought the United States into WWII, and the September 11, 2001, attack on America, has been cancelled due to the threat of winter weather on Thursday. The concert has not been rescheduled.

Decatur Food Pantry The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address.
