The purpose of the fire was to burn off the tall, dry prairie grass, reducing the fire hazard, so that new can grow back next spring. The burn was planned when south winds were blowing to keep the smoke away from the Cargill hatchery.

GENTRY -- Gentry firefighters started a fire Thursday (Dec. 19, 2013) on the acres which have become known as Gentry Prairie.
