Decatur schools to make up snow days

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

DECATUR -- The Decatur School Board, in its regular Monday night meeting on Dec 16, discussed options for making up lost days due to the recent snow and ice storm of Dec 12.

The general consensus among board members and school officials is that any days taken after finals in May would be a waste of resources to the Decatur school system and to the students themselves.

Larry Ben, district superintendent, presented three options to the board that would best serve Decatur students and faculty and still stay within the current school time-line without extending into summer vacation.

"We have a few days built into the schedule for snow," Ben said. "The other days will have to come from scheduled in-house faculty training sessions."

After reviewing each option as presented by Ben, the school board decided to adopt a plan to make up snow days using the days scheduled for staff training sessions.

Provided no other snow days are needed, the last day of classes will be on May 30, 2014.
