Gentry Pioneers overpowered by Farmington

GENTRY -- The Pioneers were overpowered under the nets on Friday in play against Farmington, losing the match-up, 55-36.

The Gentry boys found themselves down by three at the end of the first period, 12-9, but were out scored by more than 3 to 1 in the second quarter, with the Cardinals picking up another 22 points to the Pioneers' 7.

The two teams each picked up 14 in the third quarter, and the Cardinals added 7 in the final quarter to the Pioneers' 6.

Gentry picked up six offensive rebounds and seven defensive grabs compared to Farmington's 13 and 12. The Pioneers also had 14 turnovers to Farmington's 10.

The Cards added 13 points at the free-throw line. The Pioneers made five of eight attempts at the line.

Wally Dane led the scoring for the Pioneers with 11. Dusty Haag picked up six.

The Pioneers are next scheduled to play in the Berryville Bobcat Holiday Hoops tournament on Thursday, at 5:20 p.m., in Bobcat Gym, against Waldron.

No results were available at press time for the Lady Pioneers. They are scheduled to play in the Siloam Springs tournament on Jan. 2-4.
