Harris Steele appointed to Sulphur Springs council

By Larry Burge

SULPHUR SPRINGS -- An appointment made during the Dec. 12 regular city council meeting filled the last vacant council seat for Sulphur Springs.

Harris Steele received the unanimous vote of the five remaining council members to fill the Ward 1, Position 1, seat vacated by Mayor Greg Barber on Nov. 15.

The council seat was left open when Barber was appointed and took over as Sulphur Spring's new mayor. Barber took over the mayor's post following the resignation of former mayor, Bobby Simon.

The council's choice on Dec. 12 was between two former Sulphur Springs mayors, Harris Steele and Bobby Simon. Both applied for appointment to the position after Barber vacated the post and began serving as mayor.
