Bulldogs split games during Christmas event

— The Bulldogs won one and lost one during the Heber Springs tournament last week.

Decatur came back to defeat the Des Arc Eagles 45-42 during Saturday’s tournament game.

The Bulldogs ended the first quarter with a two point lead. By half-time the two teams were tied 17-17 before the Eagles pulled ahead ending the third quarter with a four point lead. Decatur came back and outscored Des Arc 22-15 in the fourth quarter for a victory.

Decatur sophomore Mario Urquidi led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 13 points and nine rebounds, followed by senior Dakota Pitcher with 12 points and senior Andrew Harris with11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Victor Urquidi made five rebounds and five assists.

The Bulldogs lost 49-38 to Heber Springs Panthers during Friday’s tournament game.

The Panthers quickly outscored Decatur 20-8 in the first quarter but by half-time the Bulldogs were catching up with a nearly tied score of 24-23. Decatur stayed right behind Heber Springs through the third quarter but the Panthers scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to Decatur’s 8 for a final lead of 11 points.

Heber Springs junior Aaron Brown led the panthers in scoring 20 points, followed by junior Michael Kramer.

The Bulldogs will next face the Hackett Hornets in a conference home game on Friday.
