Area post offices post their hours

Changes designed to provide service, save money

— After reviews conducted by the U.S. Postal Service last summer, the following hours of service at the Hiwasse, Maysville and Sulphur Springs post offices continue in place, according to officers in each of the locations.

At Sulphur Springs, the window service is available from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each week day and from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays, according to Kristen Campbell.

Stephen Lowe, officer in charge at Hiwasse, said window service there is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays from 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Maysville window service hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed for lunch) and from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturdays, Postal Clerk Martha Tucker reported.

Outer lobbies in each of the offices are open 24/7 for customers to have access to their mail boxes. Outgoing mail can be posted there in addition to the outside receptacle.

Keeping smaller local offices open is part of the Postal Service strategy to preserve the offices with modified window hours. Zip codes for the respective offices are also being maintained. These are all cost-cutting measures being taken to help overcome deficits in the operation of the system.
