Decatur PO to have its hours cut in April

— The Decatur Post Office will only be open six hours per day during the week starting in April, the United States Postal Service announced on Jan. 1.

The Decatur Post Office was one of 400 offices in Arkansas - including the Hiwasse, Maysville and Sulphur Springs Post Offices - selected for a POST Plan review. The review explored options ofclosing the post offices, reducing hours or offering a “Village Post Office” kept open by a local business or private contractor.

After reviewing customer survey responses and a community meeting in October, the USPS decided to keep the Decatur Post Office open with reduced hours.

The office will be open six hours each weekday, effective April 6, according to a letter to Decaturpostal customers. The facility will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch, on Monday through Friday. It will keep its current hours, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., on Saturday.

Customers will still have access to their mail boxes inside the post office building 24 hours a day, and outgoing mail will be picked up at 10 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to the letter.
