Darryll Brandon

Darryll Brandon, 60, of Bella Vista, died Jan. 12, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers following a battle with melanoma.

He was born April 1, 1952, to Leland Arthur Brandon and Betty Louise Fairbanks Brandon at Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, Calif. Being raised in a military family, he lived in many locations, including California, Newfoundland, Arkansas and Kansas. After graduating high school in 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served 22 years in the intelligence field before retiring in San Antonio, Texas. He then served University United Methodist Church in San Antonio as building superintendent for 16 years. He and his wife, Debbie Wilson Brandon, moved to Bella Vista in 2007. His interests were photography, woodworking and his 1940 Buick. He also served as a commissioner of Gravette’s historical museum.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Debbie Wilson Brandon; four children, Tim Brandon of San Antonio, Heather Franks and husband Adam of Lincoln, Calif., Travis Brandon of Phoenix, Ariz., and Stephani Wolfe and husband Brett of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; his father of Gravette; three sisters, Lynette Floyd of Gravette, Lucy Ferguson of Sulphur Springs and Lori McNamara of Bella Vista.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Bentonville.

Truman Duncan

Truman Winston Duncan, 81, of Sulphur Springs, died Jan. 8, 2013, at his home.

He was born on June 6, 1931, in Benton County to Walter Lee and Lillie Clark Duncan. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a general laborer with the chicken and canning industry. He attended the Gentry United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Mae, and his second wife, Virginia.

Survivors include his stepchildren, Pat Burks of the home, Johnny Cox, Larry Cox, Loretta Higgs and Michael Cox all of Gentry, Stella Bowman of Columbus Kan., Wesley Cox of Oklahoma and Dale Cox of Vinita, Okla.; and one sister, Ann Romaine of Texas.

No services are planned at this time. Local arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Andee Gilbert

Andee Louise Gilbert, 50, of Gentry, died Jan. 7, 2013, at Northwest Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 15, 1962, in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, to James G. Ryan Jr. and Dorothy Brewer Ryan. She was a homemaker and a plane enthusiast.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Gilbert of the home; one son, James Gilbert of Springdale; one daughter, Karissa Crile and husband John of Springdale; her mother, Dorothy Reed of Fayetteville; one brother, Greg Ryan and wife Dawn of Nacogdoches, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 11 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Siloam Springs, with Salvador Marquez-Minoz officiating. Burial was at Red Oak Cemetery in Red Oak, Okla. Arrangements were by Sisco Funeral Home, Springdale.

Michael Lowe

Michael Ray Lowe, 56, of Gravette, died Jan, 13, 2013, in Bentonville.

He was born May 25, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., to Nobel and Janice Lowe. He was a police officer who served the Siloam Springs and Gentry communities.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sheri Anne Lowe; and his son, Gregory Allen Lowe.

Survivors include three brothers, Rick Lowe of Decatur, Sam Lowe and wife Sandra of the Sandusky Community, Okla., and Joe Hogner of Peavine, Okla.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Joseph “J.R.” Mitchell

Joseph Robert “J.R.” Mitchell, 87, of Gravette, died Jan. 10, 2013, at Circle of Life in Bentonville.

He was born June 24, 1925 in Sentinel, Okla., to Benjamin F. Mitchell and Mary Busby Mitchell. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed on the USS Shangri La, serving in the South Pacific, Guam, Tinian and the Mariana Islands. He worked as a diesel mechanic in Plainview, Texas, for many years before moving to Carlsbad, N.M., where he worked and retired from Mississippi Chemical Company. In 1984, he and wife Ruth purchased a farm in Vaughn to be near their children and farmed and raised cattle until 2004, when they moved to Gravette. He was a member of First Christian Church of Gravette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Young Mitchell; three daughters, Gean Munger and husband Dave of Lakewood, Colo., Judy Stone of Fayetteville, Joann Mitchell and husband Terry, of Centerton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services were Jan. 14 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Chapel with Terry Longan and Lynn Brown officiating. Burial was at Barron Cemetery near Vaughn with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post#100. Arrangements were by Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers.
