Skate Park rolling ahead

— A skate park for Gravette youth took a big step forward last Friday when word was received that the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism awarded the city a substantial grant for construction of such a facility.

The matching grant, in the amount of $27,070, is the result of a grant application submitted by Allyson Ransom, the city’s director of communications and resource efficiency.

Mayor Byron Warren said the city has already received a $10,000 grant from the Walton Foundation for the project. The city must now come up with an additional $17,000 to match the state grant.

When built, the skate park will be located in the Pop Allum Park complex. A preliminary design sketch, whichshows a 60 x 120 foot area reserved for the facility, was part of the grant application.

When the project can be continued depends upon the city being able to provide the remaining $17,000 to match the state grant.
