Burden receives academic scholarship

DECATUR - Jayme Burden, a 2013 Decatur High School graduate, was one of 20 western Arkansas students awarded a $1,000 academic scholarship from Farm Credit of Western Arkansas.

Burden is the daughter of Farm Credit members Marcus and Terri Burden of Decatur. She is pursuing an agriculture education degree at Arkansas Tech University this fall.

“We proudly award this well-deserved scholarship in recognition of Jayme’s many academic accomplishments and student leadership,” explains Farm Credit CEO Glen Manchester.

“Our scholarships are supporting the future of western Arkansas agriculture, agribusinesses and rural communities. Many recipients have agricultural backgrounds. Some are pursuing agricultural degrees or careers that support agriculture in some way. Others plan to continue living in rural communities.”

“We’ve distributed $145,000 in scholarship awards since 1996 to assist talented young people like Jayme achieve their academic goals,” Manchester concluded.
