GRAVETTE DAYS EVENTS

GRAVETTE - Gravette Days 2013 plans are beginning to shape up for the annual celebration which is scheduled the weekend of Aug. 8-10.

According to Damon Wallace, chair of the celebration, some of the events planned include a pet parade, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, battle of the bands, the annual beauty pageant, Kiwanis pancake breakfast, parade, softball tournament, archery shoot, poker run, 5K fun run, a Dutch Oven Cookoff, horseshoe pitching contest and street dance/music. Several GHS High School alumni classes are expected to hold reunions during the weekend.

The website of Gravette Chamber of Commerce contains application forms for many of the events, as well as a form for vendors who plan to set up their wares/games/informational booths.

The annual celebration of the founding of Gravette - this is birthday 120 for the Gate City - will center in Old Town Park, the site of the celebration for many years. Some events will be held at other locations in the city.

A complete schedule of times and places has not been announced, but following are some of those on the website which require applications, with deadlines for entries listed on the form:◊3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Thursday, August 8.

◊Volleyball Tournament, Friday, August 9.

◊Battle of the Bands, Friday, August 9, 7 p.m. in Kindley Park.

◊Coed Softball Tournament, Friday and Saturday August 9 and 10.

◊Miss Gravette 2013 Pageant, August 8, 9 and 10,which includes mandatory practice, interview and showtime at the Performing Arts Center, parade and crowning ceremony. Complete rules and eligibility information available by contacting Deree Mitchell, 787-8165 or [email protected].

◊Tiny Tot Contest and Pageant, August 9 and 10. Various age groups from 1 year through age 15. Deadline is August 5.

◊Dutch Oven Cook-Off, Saturday, August 10, at Gravette Historical Museum. See related story.

◊Gravette Day 5K Run and 5K Walk, August 10. Preregister, $25; race day, $35. Parent signature required for youth 18 and under.

◊Poker Run, August 10, 8 a.m., $5 per vehicle. Contact Russ Anzalone to register, 721-1051.
