2K, 5K and 10K races planned

Often, when runners talk about entering a “marathon,” they refer to races like those in Boston and New York. Runners in Northwest Arkansas think of the Hog Eye and Race for the Cure marathons.

While the local race isn’t a marathon, the Decatur Fun Run has local residents abuzz.

The Fun Run is held in conjunction with the annual Decatur Barbecue on Aug. 3. It pits runners against hills, valleys, curves and straight stretches along routes that are 2K,5K, and 10K on Decatur’s west side.

According to Fun Run organizer, Dane Addington, “There were 31 runners participating in last year’s event.”

Addingtion and co-organizer, Amy Brooks, hope the number will double or triple for this year’s run.

There will be a $20 entry fee.

T-shirts will be provided to each runner.

Registration on the day of the race begins at 6:30 a.m. The races begin at 7 a.m. at Edmiston Park in Decatur.
