Children’s pageant to be held

CONTESTANTS, AGES 4 TO 6, MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR BARBECUE EVENT

When visiting friends with children, the conversation inevitably shifts toward what little Johnny or Suzy did that day. Suddenly, out pops the photo album or video tape. This is parents’ way of expressing pride in their offspring. On August 3, parents will get the chance to show off their little ones during the 60th Annual Decatur Barbecue Tiny Tots contest.

The Tiny Tots contest is open to children, ages 4 to 6. Children must be pre-registered to participate.

According to the contest rules, “The applicant must wear summer clothing for the pageant - please no suits or heavy dresses. The weather will be hot, and comfortable clothing is suggested.”

There will be a mandatory rehearsal at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2. Contestants will have a chance to run through pageant procedures. This will allow participants a chance to get comfortable with performing in front of a crowd.

Participation in the Decatur Barbecue parade is mandatory for all contestants. The parade will line up at the old city park at 10:30 a.m., with the start time scheduled for 11 a.m.

The Tiny Tots contest will take place in Veterans Park. The contestants are required to be backstage by 7:15 p.m. Judging is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
