LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

This poem was written as a class assignment by my 14-year-old greatgranddaughter, Courtney Davis.

Courtney lives in Bentonville, where she attends school at Washington Junior High. Every other weekend she visits her grandparents, Randy and Sheila Roughton, at their home east of Decatur. While at their home, Courtney is able to visit with friends and extended family in Decatur and attend church with us at Midway Pentecostal Church, located between Decatur and Gravette. This was the basis for her poem.

I believe your readers would enjoy reading it as much as I did. Thank you.

Delores Guthrie Gravette “Decatur, AR” I’ve always loved Decatur Going swimming in the river And growing fresh vegetables And spending time with family In a quiet little town And knowing everyone And taking back roads And learning how to drive And getting to know your mom And not worrying about anything And going horseback ridingAnd going to your very own church With maybe 50 people Every Sunday Singing with the family church band And knowing you’re safe not only Because you are with family But because you don’t live off a Main highway.

GHS administration, faculty and staff would like to say thank you toall of the wonderful volunteers who assisted in so many ways this year. As your parental involvement increases, GHS test scores continue to increase. As we finish the school year, we want to say thank you for all of your hard work. Start thinking of how you would like to become even more involved in the 2013-2014 school year.
