GRAVETTE - The Gravette High School Golf Classic, which had been rescheduled for Saturday, June 1, at Stockdale Golf Course in Bella Vista, was canceled because of weather conditions.
It was the second time weather played havoc for the classic, which was originally scheduled for May 4. A freak late spring snow forced cancellation on the original date.
John Edwards, school board president and one of the driving forces for the annual project, said the uncertainty of possible rain/storms forced the unwanted decision to cancel. It was impractical to again reschedule the event.
Edwards said all the team captains were notified, participants met at Highlands United Methodist Church for lunch, and drawings were held for flight prizes and other door prizes.
“The 25 HOSA students were able to sell tickets to raise funds for their planned trip to national competition and raised about $700,” Edwards said.
“Everyone was pretty understanding,” Edwards added. “We’re going to make plans for the classic next spring.”
The annual classic has become a tradition and provides funds for the sporting and other extracurricular groups at Gravette High School.
