Orla Bryson

Orla Bryson, 83, of Decatur, died June 10, 2013.

He was born in Gravette to Gus and Edith Harrington Bryson on Aug. 30, 1929. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, enjoyed fishing, playing cards and had lived most of his life in Northwest Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Bryson of Bentonville, Kenny Bryson of Springdale, and Tim Bryson of Iowa; two daughters, Jackie Lange and Dianne Christy of Iowa; a brother; three sisters; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held June 12 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Bentonville.

Melvin Roberts

Melvin Roberts, 86, a lifelong resident of Gravette, died June 12, 2013, at the Circle of Life Legacy Village Hospice Care in Bentonville.

He was born in Gravette on May 10, 1927, to Albert and Ruby (Medearis) Roberts. On Aug. 9, 1947, he married Betty Jean Schickling, and they were married for nearly 64 years before her death in 2011. He retired from the Gravette Shelling Company and enjoyed plowing and working with his tractor, feeding birds and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; and one brother, Carl Roberts.

He is survived by two sons, Ron Roberts and Linda Turner of Rogers, Terry Roberts and wife Barbara of Gravette; two daughters, Carolyn Bryant of Weatherford, Texas, and Donna Austin and husband Bill of Gravette; one brother, Marion Roberts of Gravette; one sister, Alberta Roark of Shawnee, Okla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were June 15 at the Gravette Church of Christ, with Randall Caselman officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette. Arrangements were by Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home and Crematory of Rogers.

Barbara Scates

Barbara Sue Scates, 70, of Gentry, died June 13, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 27, 1942, to David Wesley Baylor and Frances Vivian Swan. She worked as an office worker for Peterson Farms, Mid-America Cabinets and Walmart.

She is survived by three children, Richard Scates of Siloam Springs, Connie Weiss and husband Greg of Tulsa, Okla., and Sarah Foreman and husband Dewayne of Colcord, Okla.
