— It was a soldout event at Gentry’s annual Chamber of Commerce awards banquet at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant on Thursday as members of the Gentry community gathered for a good meal, conversation and for the annual awards ceremonies.

The banquet meal - shredded turkey, dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and desserts - was prepared by the Wooden Spoon Restaurant, with the turkey donated by Cargill.

Awards were presented to Gentry United Way, Organization of the Year; Juan“JJ” Perez Bejar, Volunteer of the Year; All the volunteers who host the annual Gentry Thanksgiving Dinner, Citizens of the Year; AEP/SWEPCO, Business of the Year; Glenn Smith, Silver Award; and Grace Glass, Roy Jech and Nina Steele, Lifetime Achievement Awards.

A video presentation, entitled “Reflection of Gentry,”with interviews by Glenn Smith of longtime residents Orville Bartley, Inez Bramwell and Leroy Jordan, drew the undivided attention of attendees as they heard descriptions of life in Gentry in years gone by.

More photos and information on this year’s awards is slated for next week’s issue of the Westside Eagle Observer.
