Local man accused of raping girl

Gravette man arrested Thursday

BENTONVILLE - A Gravette man was arrested Thursday in connection with raping a 9-year-old girl.

Alvin Jackson, 32, was being held Friday in the Benton County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Jackson is accused of rape, a Class Y felony.

The Arkansas State Police Child Abuse Hotline received a call concerning the girl being sexually abused and an investigation was started, according to court documents.

The girl was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County. She gave details of the abuse and named Jackson as her abuser, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl reported the abuse began when she was 4, the affidavit states.

Siloam Springs District Judge Stephen Thomas ordered Jackson not to have any contact with the girl.

Jackson was convicted of sexual battery in 1998 in California and a probation violation in 2001, according to court documents.

Rape is normally punishable with a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 40 years or life. However, Arkansas law requires a conviction of raping a child 13 or younger to carry a minimum sentence of 25 years.

Jackson’s arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. April 15, before Circuit Judge Robin Green.
