Nims accepted into school of journalism for graduate studies

GRAVETTE - Brittany Nims, a 2009 Gravette High School graduate, was recently accepted into Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in Chicago for graduate studies.

Nims will graduate from the University of Arkansas in May with her bachelor’s degree in news and editorial journalism. She will begin the Master of Science program at Medill in late September.

Nims will join about 100 students for the yearlong program. Students accepted demonstrate excellent writing, interpersonal communication and quantitative skills, as well as outstanding prior academic performance and professionalism.

Medill is ranked among top journalism schools in the country and provides graduate students with hands-on reporting experience in Medill’s downtown Chicago and D.C. newsrooms.

Nims has worked with the University of Arkansas’ independent student-run newspaper, The Arkansas Traveler, for two years, as assistant news editor and managing editor, respectively. During thesummer she worked as a news reporting intern for Northwest Arkansas Newspapers.

Nims intends to pursue urban affairs reporting at Medill, covering issues like politics, diversity, education, courts and police.
