Parish takes first in 100-meter dash

SPRINGDALE - Kevin Parish had that feeling something good was on the verge of happening Thursday afternoon.

He didn’t have long to wait for that premonition to become reality. The Gentry senior started off his outdoor campaign by winning the 100-meter dash during the Joe Roberts Invitational at Southwest Junior High.

“This was what I’ve been working for,” Parish said. “Ever since my senior year started, I’ve been hitting the weights and running. This is my goal.”

Parish had plenty of familiar company surrounding him from start to finish. He was sandwiched between defending Class 7A state champion Chase Lamers of Rogers High and Shiloh Christian’s Daniel Shimer in the fourth and final heat of the boys 100.

Parish crossed the finish line with little room to spare. His time was 11.54 seconds, .01 seconds faster than Lamers, while Rogers Heritage’s Joey Saucier was a close third at 11.61.

“My start was just the way I had been practicing it,” Parish said. “I saw both of them on each side, and I just pushed myself that much harder.”
