Pioneers overcome Lions in last inning

GENTRY - In a seventh inning comeback, the Gentry Pioneers defeated the Gravette Lions in the Merrill Reynolds Memorial Complex in Gentry on Friday.

Gentry struck first with a run in the bottom of the second, but Gravette took the lead in the top of the third with three runners crossing the plate. Gentry scored two in the bottom of the inning to tie things up.

The Lions scored solo runs in the fifth and the sixth, with Gentry answering with only one run in the bottom of the sixth.

Gravette was held scoreless in the top of the seventh, but Gentry answered with two, to win the game, 6-5.

Brent Barker scored the tying run for Gentry and also earned the win, pitching in the last two innings and striking out five Lion batters.

Gentry’s other runs were scored by Tucker Willett, Jake Ashworth, Ryan Hockenberry, Dustin Stoufflet and Austin Cochran. Ashworth had two runs batted in on two hits. Cole Ellison also had two hits in the game.

Gentry had a total of10 hits, with four of them doubles.

No stats were available for the Gravette Lions.

Ozark 7 Gentry 3

Gentry lost in an away game at Ozark on Monday, 7-3.

Ozark picked up solo runs in the first two innings, but Gentry grabbed the lead in the third, with three crossing home plate.

Ozark tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and picked up another two in each of the final innings.

Gentry was held to five hits in the game, with Cole Ellison picking up the only RBI. Willett, Stoufflet and Garrett Roberts were the only Pioneers to cross the plate.

Pitching in the game were Brent Barker, Austin Cochran and Dusty Haag. The loss was charged against Cochran, who gave up five hits and three earned runs in the game.

Pea Ridge 8 Gentry 4

Gentry lost in a home game against Pea Ridge on Thursday.

The Pioneers picked up a first inning run and held the 1-0 lead until the fifth, when Pea Ridge knocked in three runs.

In the sixth, Pea Ridge added to its lead and was up 7-1, but Gentry answered with three in the bottom of the inning.

In the final inning, another Pea Ridge runner crossed the plate. Gentry was unable to answer, losing the game 8-4.

Austin Cochran was chosen as Gentry’s player of the game for his three RBIs and three strike outs in two innings on the mound.

Gentry was held to five hits in the game, with runs scored by Willett, Cochran, Chris Wiand and Dusty Haag.

Haag was charged with the loss in the game.

Gentry 13 West Fork 1

On March 4, the Pioneers traveled to West Fork and picked up a huge win against the Tigers, 13-1.

Gentry jumped to an early lead and built on it throughout the game, picking up three in the first, two in the second, five in the third and two in the fifth. West Fork’s only run came in the fourth.

Chris Wiand pitched the full five-inning game for Gentry and gave up only two hits.

Willett, Cochran, Wiand and Haag all picked up RBIs in the game.
