GENTRY — The Lady Pioneers picked up their first win during the Siloam Springs Lady Panther Invitational earlier this month.

The girls played their first tournament game against Pea Ridge on Friday. The Lady Blackhawks hit the ball well and started off the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Pioneers bounced back with a run in the top of the second. Taylor Enlow scored off of a double by Rindy Hudson. But Pea Ridge picked up another two runs in the bottom of the third to lead the Pioneers 4-1.

Gentry tried to answer again, but only scored a single run in the fourth inning, when Baeley Metz got an RBI off of a fielder's choice. The Lady Pioneers tried to rally late, but left runners stranded, with bases loaded, to end the game. The final was Pea Ridge 4, Gentry 2. Rindy Hudson was 2-4 with an RBI to lead the way for Gentry.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Pioneers faced Charleston in the first round of the loser's bracket. Gentry's bats got hot early with three straight hits to open up the game, including a triple by Rindy Hudson to lead off the game and then back-to-back singles by Shannea Smartt and Jordan Olds. The Lady Pioneers scored four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead over the Lady Tigers.

Charleston bounced back quickly, scoring five runs over the next two innings and taking a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the third.

Gentry fought back and tied the game at 5 each with an RBI single by Courtney Brown in the bottom of the third inning. Shannea Smartt ended the game with a walkoff single in the bottom of the fourth, after the time limit for the game had expired. Gentry got its first win of the season against Charleston, 6-5.

Leading the way for the Lady Pioneers were Rindy Hudson 2-3, Shannea Smartt 2-3 and 2 RBIs.

Next up for the Pioneers were the Siloam Lady Panthers. Siloam got on the board early with two runs in the first inning.

Gentry answered with one of their own when Shannea Smartt scored on a single by Courtney Brown. Gentry took a lead in the third inning when Baeley Metz hit a two-run double down the right field line to score Heather Marshall and Courtney Brown.

Siloam Springs added three more runs in the final two innings to take a two-run lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

Gentry scored another run when Taylor Enlow crossed the plate off a two-out double by Rindy Hudson. Shannea Smartt then hit a hard line drive, but a diving catch was made by the shortstop to end the game. Gentry fell to Siloam by a score of 5-4 in dramatic fashion. Gentry was led by Heather Marshall 2-3, Courtney Brown 2-3 1 RBI, Baeley Metz 1-2 with 2 RBIs.
