Hazel Cantrell

Hazel Ava Cantrell, 94, of Colcord, Okla., died March 17, 2013, at Ozarks Community Hospital, Gravette.

She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Delaware County, Okla., to Tom Potter and Mary Dewbre Potter. She and her family lived in the state of Oregon where they farmed until they returned to Oklahoma. She attended Minnnie HaHa Elementary School and graduated from Colcord High School. She was employed as a cook in various places, including the Colcord Ranch, Decatur Schools and Dawn Hill Country Club. She had also worked for the Delaware County Health Unit. She was a member of the Colcord Church of Christ, Colcord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil S. Cantrell; sisters Flossie Woodruff, Melva Hollenback, and Justine Potter; and one brother, Mansell Potter.

Survivors include one son, Quincy Cantrell of Colcord; one grandson, Shane Cantrell and wife Alanna of Caulksville; two brothers, Marlyn Potter of Jay, Okla., and Larence Potter of Colcord; two sisters, Marilyn Sanford of Tulsa, Okla., and Carroll Carver of Claremore, Okla.

Funeral services were March 22 at Colcord Church of Christ, with Larry Ellis officiating. Burial followed at Bell Cemetery, Adair County, Okla. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Jerry Garrett

Jerry Don Garrett, 66, of Goodman, Mo., died March 17, 2013, at Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville.

He was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Siloam Springs, to Ray Garrett and Della Mae Nichols Garrett. He married Ellie Warner on Jan. 3, 1984, in Bentonville. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator at Wichita Boeing Aircraft and as a brick mason in Northwest Arkansas for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond Garrett and Jack Garrett.

Survivors include his wife, Ellie; three sons, Clint Garrett of Bella Vista, Don Beyer of Fayetteville, Jeff Wolke of Rose Hill, Kan.; two daughters, Kim Garrett of Vaughn, Sandy Dugger of Vaughn; two stepsons; J.J. Keener of Russellville, Brian Keener of Verona, Mo.; thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Roy Garrett of Vaughn; and two sisters, Louise Riley of Wichita, Kan., and Lois Babcock of Jay, Okla.

Funeral services were March 20 at Harbor of Praise, Bentonville, with Roy Roughton officiating. Burial was at Springtown Cemetery, Springtown. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

William Huston

William Lee Huston, 81, of Springdale, died March 20, 2013, at the Shiloh Nursing and Rehab.

He was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Bradfordsville, Ky., to Robert A. Huston and Opal Reynolds Huston. He married Mary Joelene Owens on June 2, 1957, in Blackwell, Okla. He was a store manager for the C.R. Anthony’s Clothing Store in Oklahoma for more than 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrison, a former member of the Kiwanis International, enjoyed singing in the church choir, listening to gospel music, playing golf and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert E. Huston.

He is survived by his wife Joelene of the home; mother-in-law, Aliene Owens of Springdale; two daughters, Sondra Terrell and husband Wayne of Harrison, and Cindy Patton and husband Bryan of Decatur; a sister, Doris A. Wood and husband Dwaine of Ponca City, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial service was held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home on March 23, with John Darnall officiating.

Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Rankin Smith, 93, of Rogers, died March 21, 2013, at Circle of Life in Springdale.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in Gentry, to Florence Runyan and Robert J. Rankin. She graduated from Gentry High School in the class of 1937. In 1940, she married Vol W. Smith. They lived in several states because of Vol’s work with Al Johnson Construction Company, retiring in Lowell in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rogers and the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was also a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sister, Mary Thomas.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly S. Jackson (George) of Birmingham, Ala., and Ann Millsap (David) of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held March 22 at First United Methodist Church, Rogers, with Sandra Wanasek officiating. Private burial was in Barron Cemetery in Vaughn.

Arrangements were by Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Rogers.

Bobby Steen

Bobby Glen Steen, 70, of Decatur, died March 19, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 12, 1943, in Murfreesboro, to BJ and Ester Steen. He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Centerton. He was a poultry processing manager for many years and retired from Little Debbie’s, where he was a security guard. He loved hunting and was an avid Razorback fan.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Steen of the home; two daughters, Dina Warren of Southwest City, Mo., and D’Aunn Glass of Kansas, Okla.; two stepchildren, Preston Newbill of Gravette, and Michelle Stevens of Jay, Okla.; one sister, Gay Bray of Dierks; two brothers, Eddie Steen and Ray Steen, both of Murfreesboro; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was March 23 at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Centerton, with Ralph Walker officiating. Burial was in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur. Arrangements were by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
