Police arrest two in city theft

DECATUR - Several incidents were reported to the Decatur Police Department in the past three weeks, according to Police Chief Terry Luker.

Two Decatur men were arrested in connection with a break in and theft at Decatur’s waste water treatment plant on Austin Ave., according to Decatur police chief Terry Luker.

James Boston, Decatur’s public works manager, reported several tools, motors, car batteries, wire and other metal items were removed from the property during the early morning hours of April 16. The property taken was valued at $7,700.

Police arrested and charged Tommy Jackson and his son Christopher Jackson with commercial burglary and theft of building material from a construction site, both felonies, and possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. They were transported to Benton County. Both Jordon Jackson and Derrick Williams were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In another incident, Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker and Officer Larry Fiedorowicz were notified by Atoka County, Okla., that two persons with active felony warrant were in the area. The two were apprehended at the E-Z Mart store in Decatur and were identified as Julie Maxey Alford and Kenny Courtney. Alford was arrested without incident. Countney evaded arrest from police and was apprehended a short time later by Officer Fiedorowicz. Both were taken to Benton County and were awaiting extradition to Oklahoma.

Acting on a tip from the public, Troy Lee Dill and John Wayne Tucker were apprehended at 521 Charley St. and charged with manufacture of methamphetamine-manufacture of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and delivery or manufacture of a counterfeit substance, all felonies.

A vehicle break-in was reported by a Pruzik Security guard at the Simmons Foods facility in Decatur. The vehicle, owned by Paula and Kenneth Reece, was parked at the Simmons Fitness Center when the break-in occurred, sometime around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6th.

According to police, one of the windows was broken and a purse belonging to Paula Reece was taken. Later a hammer was found in a culvert near an apartment complex on Roller Ave. It was later identified as the tool used to break the car window. Several items, including credit cards, were contained in the purse at the time of the theft. Decatur police received information about the use of some of the stolen credit cards and man and woman were captured on surveillance cameras at several locations in Gentry.

The investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made in connection with the theft as of April 22.
