OPINION? EVERYBODY HAS ONE: Enjoy beef producing days

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

I promised myself and the male offspring we would put together a covered working area and we are gonna start it this coming month. I suspect it will take a summer to get it going as hay time is about upon us, a couple more weeks, and then all the rest of the stuff required to keep body and soul together has to be taken care of.

Our Grands have been planning a trip with their old grandparents and my close relative is going along with them on the idea. I heard them talk about Washington D.C., New York City and even heard them say something about Maine. Well, let us remember who is financing this planned exportation. It ain’t Queen Isabella!

I have inserted a comment or two about a trip to the ice cream store or even a big city movie. I know our biggest town close to the place is not a big city, but they have movies and ice cream stores, too! I had to vacate the premises because I was pretty certain the crowd was going to become unruly after that look crossed their faces!

I believe we have the scours whipped again, and now I am watching for sore feet where the ground is a little swampy. The ponds ran over in almost all the pastures and I am not complaining about that, but standing around in the wet can be detrimental to some that are prone to hoof rot. We moved the steers to the south end of the leased place and are watering them out of the well. They are doing good, looks like they weigh around 650 now and are slicking off.

The offspring have started marking the best looking and proper age heifers for AI breeding. They are on their toes with the prospects of developing the herd to the height of excellence. I am so proud of them and their efforts but do not mention it to them because I did not allow skiing trips this spring. I was not being an ogre as I was accused of by my close relative; the work load was prohibitive for allowing the loss of two hands.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, I’d like every single beef producing person in the world to have a similar day and opportunity to enjoy it! Since today is so lovely, I believe I will find me a place where birds are singing, breeze is blowing and fences need a staple or two. Not too close to headquarters, and a place in a little timber to park my truck. No, I am not hiding, just taking advantage of time to be alone with the Lord and thank Him for all these blessings!
