Renaissance Fair set for June 1

GRAVETTE - A Renaissance Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 1, in Old Town Park at Gravette, sponsored by the Gravette Library Commission. A similar fair was held last year and was very popular.

Many activities are planned for the day, including armored combat, archery on horseback, quintain competition (tilting at a mounted target) and padded sword battles. All activities are free.

Animals from the Wild Wilderness Drive-through Safari will be on display. Other booths will feature heraldry, face painting and fairies. Musicians will provide music and songs from the medieval period.Members of the Society for Creative Anachronism will be present to help with activities.

A bounce house will be provided for children, and several vendors will offer both period and non period merchandise. Food booths will sell a variety of tasty food and drink offerings.

“We are a young fair and we are trying to offer a variety of activities so there will be something for everyone who plans to attend,” said Steve Oler, chairperson for the fair.

He and his fellow library commissioners invite all in the area to come for an entertaining and educational day.

All proceeds will fund programs and activities at the Gravette Public Library.
