LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Another wolf sighted in Arkansas

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Editor,

I just read your 2012 article. I live in Hot Springs Village, and I swear I saw a wolf today, 25 yards from my mail box.

I was going to walk my two dogs and I saw what I thought was a baby deer. Then I saw it closer and I thought it was a coyote. But I have trapped and hunted coyote in North Dakota - where I am from. I have never seen a coyote this big. It was a lot bigger than a German shepherd. I would say this one weighed 100 to 120 pounds.

Then I talked to a neighbor today from northern Minnesota. He said he has seen it on many occasions. Just wanted to let you know.

Editor's Note: As stated in an earlier issue, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says such sightings are likely crossbred animals between dog, coyote and wolf. One of the reasons there are no purebred red wolves in Arkansas is cross breeding with dogs and coyotes.

PRAISE FOR VETERINARIAN Editor,

Last week I had to make a tough decision. I had to put my sweet, lovable cat, Snicker, to sleep. He had diabetes and for several weeks the staff at Country View Animal Clinic had been working with me to try to regulate his blood sugar, but it wasn’t working.

I called the clinic to take him in. I was very upset and I appreciate very much the compassion and comfort the staff gave me and my cat.

Thank you so much for your service to our community and our animals. Gayle Williams Gravette
