DECATUR - Decatur football coach Shane Holland is looking at possibly making some changes at quarterback next season.

Rising junior Victor Urquidi returns after leading the Bulldogs to a 6-5 record last season, but rising sophomore Meng Vang (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) could figure into the picture after being the quarterback on the junior high team last year.

A switch at quarterback could allow the talented Urquidi to move to another position on the offense.

Urquidi passed for 800 yards and eight touchdowns last season, while averaging 111 yards a game rushing.

Because of scheduling conflicts, the incoming sophomores couldn’t work out with the returning upperclassmen during spring drills.

“We are going to look at some combinations at quarterback,” Holland said. “Vang can really throw the ball. I’ve been around enough passers to know that he can really throw the ball. But we will have some packages with Victor at quarterback that are nonnegotiable.”

Decatur returns just one lineman in Matt Lee, who played offensive guard last year but will be at center this fall. He will also play either nose guard or tackle on defense.

“We have a long way to go with our linemen,” Holland said. “We graduated nearly all of our linemen. We have a lot of work to do there. Matt Lee is a pretty good lineman.”

Holland expects to have 26 players out for August drills.
