Ransom announces resignation from city posts

GRAVETTE - No official business was conducted at the regular Gravette City Council meeting last week other than approving minutes of regular, special and the committee of the whole meetings.

All council members were present except Larry Stidham.

Jillian Skinner reported the success of this year’s Gravette Youth Baseball/ Softball program now underway at Pop Allum Park. More than 250 youth, of all ages, are participants, she reported.

She indicated the walking trail adjacent the park is a feature that could be promoted and expanded for parents and spectators at the summer ball games. She also mentioned the need for additional playground equipment for children, saying it would enhance the park.

The surprise resignation of Allyson Ransom, the city of Gravette director of communications, resource efficiency, and farmer’s market director, was the only other event during the brief meeting.

Ransom read a letter in which she stated, “I have appreciated having the opportunity to work for the city of Gravette and its citizens for more than 10 years, working in four departments and with three mayors.”

She has been instrumental in securing numerous grants for many projects in recent years and was instrumental in establishment of the Gravette Farmer’s Market.

Following the reading of her letter, council members and Mayor Warren seemed unable to comment, and the meeting promptly adjourned.
