Renaissance Fair set Saturday

Gravette Library plans second annual event in Old Town park.

GRAVETTE - A schedule has been released for the Renaissance Fair to be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday, June 1, in Old Town Park at Gravette.

Admission is free but there is a charge for some activities.

Activities include the following: 10 - 10:30 a.m. - Gravette High School band; 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) Fighters, armored battles; 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. - GHS band; 12 - 12:30 p.m. - Warrior battles; 12:30 - 1 p.m. - GHS band; 1 - 1:30 p.m. - Ambience Trio; 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. - SCA Fighters; 2:30 - 3 p.m. - GHS band; 3 - 4 p.m. - Quintain/archery on horseback; 4 - 4:30 p.m. - Ambience Trio; 4:30 - 5 p.m. - Story time for children; 5 - 6 p.m. - Whips demonstration.

Many events are planned for the day, including armored combat, archery on horseback, quintain competition (tilting at a mounted target) and padded sword battles. A choir will be wandering in the park from 10 a.m. to noon, Jinglybits musical group and Limey the Dragon will wander throughout the day, and the horses used for the mounted competition will be on hand all day and available for visitors to include in their photographs.

Animals from the Wild Wilderness Drive-through Safari will be on display. Other booths will feature heraldry, face painting and fairies. Musicians will provide music and songs from the medieval period.

A bounce house will be provided for children, and several vendors will offer both period and non-period merchandise. Food booths will sell a variety of tasty food and drink offerings.

This is Gravette’s second Renaissance Fair. The event last year was very popular, and this year is expected to be even bigger and better. It is sponsored by the Gravette Library Commission, and all proceeds will fund programs and activities at the Gravette Public Library.
