Gravette council member resigns

! Council to choose successor at Nov. 21 meeting

— James Denver, who has served as a member ofthe Gravette City Council for several years, submitted his resignation in a letter dated Oct. 25. Gravette Mayor Byron Warren accepted the resignation later that day, according to Tracy Sewell, citybusiness director.

According to Sewell, “A replacement for Alderman Ward 1, Position 1, will be appointed at the next city council meeting on Nov. 21.”

Ward 1 is that area of the city located west of State Highway 59. Qualified residents who live in that ward who are interested in being considered for the position should submit, in writing, such information stating their qualifications and reasons. Thedocuments will be distributed to all council members prior to the meeting. All applicants who appear at the meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Gravette Civic Center, willbe given the opportunity to address the council concerning their applications.

Denver’s brief letter stated: “I, James Denver, do hereby resign as councilman on the Gravette CityCouncil. At no time do I want to stand in the way of the great things that make Gravette a great place to call home.”

According to Mayor Warren, a new state law, 14-14-104, enacted by the Legislature earlier this year, requires the council name a successor at the next meeting of the city’s governing body, which will be held Nov. 21, a week earlier than the regular meeting date of Nov. 25, which is Thanksgiving Day.
