Avenue of Flags

American Legion Post 25 in Gravette will post the Avenue of Flags in Hillcrest Cemtery in observance of Veteran’s Day. The fl ags will be raised Monday, Nov. 11, at 8 a.m., and will be lowered at 5 p.m. that same day. This is the last observance in the year until Memorial Day next year. Gravette Post 25 is grateful for all the tremendous support and help that has been given with the Avenue of Flags in 2013. The public is always invited and encouraged to assist, according to J.R. Gibbs, post adjutant.

Gentry Thanksgiving

The Gentry area community-wide Thanksgiving service will be held Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd. The Gentry Ministerial Alliance, event sponsors, invite everyone to join in this time of corporate worship and fellowship. There will be special music provided by several area churches and Tony Cash, pastor of the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, will deliver the message. Veterans Potluck Dinner

The Colcord, Okla., Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a potluck dinner for all area veterans and their families at 12 noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Colcord Senior Citizens Center. All veterans are invited and asked to bring their favorite dish. Formore information, call 918-868-7775.

Falling Springs Fundraiser

The Falling Springs Church will hold their annual pie auction and cake walk at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the church, 4 1/2 miles west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road. This is a tradition that has been ongoing for more than 50 years. Proceeds will go for Christmas baskets, Christmas programs and aid for the needy in the community.

PTO Fundraiser

The Gravette PTO will be taking orders for pies and rolls from the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry as a fund-raising event. Orders for pies (11 fl avors to choose from), dinner rolls or cinnamon rolls and payment must be turned in to the high school offi ce on or before noon on Nov. 15. Orders must be picked up between 3 and 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 in the Gravette High School Commons. Orders can be placed with any Gravette student.

Tastes of the Holidays

Taste holiday dishes, see holiday table settings, sample food and receive recipes at the Tastes of the Holidays event this year from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, at the Springtown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd. (Arkansas Highway 12 east of Gentry and south on Fairmount Rd., to the church).

Planning Commission Post

The Gravette Planning Commission has a vacancy for a new member who lives within Gravette city limits.The commission is seeking an individual who would like to be a part of future planning for the city. The city limits now extend from Gravette to the newly annexed areas on Highway 72 and east of Hiwasse. Those interested in the position should attend the next scheduled commission meeting at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at City Hall on First Avenue S.E. in Gravette.

GED Prep Classes

Free GED prep classes and testing are being held at the Gravette Library now through Dec. 13. Classes are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start any time and fi nish when they are ready. Call 986-6911 or simply show up to enroll in class.

Fall Concert

A fall concert, produced by the Siloam Music Festival Series and headlined by internationally known saxophonist, Grady Nichols, a Siloam native, will feature two gospel choirs and over 50 local talented musicians, including Gabe Edmondson. Decatur Food Pantry

United Christian Charities has opened a food pantry in downtown Decatur, across from Decatur State Bank, for anyone needing food in the northwest Arkansas area. The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdaysfrom 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The point of contact is Tina Holt, 435-5699.

Maysville Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts, every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Baseball/Softball Elections

The Gravette Summer Baseball/Softball League will hold board elections Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the Arvest Bank conference room. Positions that are open this year include secretary, concession purchasing manager, concession operations manager, softball commissioner, umpire-inchief and fi eld maintenance supervisor. Motivated individuals are being sought to help with this growing youth program which now serves an estimated 600-650 children. For more information on the positions, call Tony Kildow, 787-0250.

Tired Iron

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse, located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at thecafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the fi rst Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Men’s Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men’s fellowship gathering at 8a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings Decatur

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the fi rst Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road.
