— The Lyon College football program picked up its fi rst running back of the Class of 2015 when Scots’ head coach, Kirk Kelley, announced the signing of Gravette High School fullback and nose guard, Cody Robinson.

Robinson becomes the sixth signee for the Lyon College program that will fi eld its first team since 1951 when the squad opensintercollegiate play in the fall of 2015. Lyon will be a member of the Central States Football League during its inaugural season.

Cody, the son of Stephen and Jennifer Robinson of Gravette, is not only a leader on the Lions’ football team, but has produced outstanding numbers on the track squad as well. In addition to posting 1,862 career yards through the midway point in the 2013 season, the senior qualifi ed for the Arkansas State Track & Field Meet his sophomore and junior years in the 300-meter hurdle event.

“Cody will be a tremendous addition to our Lyon College community,” stated Kelley of his latest signee. “He is such a well-rounded young man. He excels on the football fi eld, but he also is very involved in other extracurricular activities. We are proud to have him join our program.”

The 5-7, 190-pound Gravette senior is also busy when not running up and down the gridiron. Robinson participates in choir, drama and FBLA at the Class 4A Region I school, as well as serving as president of the GHS Select Choir. He is also a member of the Gravette Assembly of God Church.

During his sophomore and junior years, he played the lead role in a number of Gravette High School plays, as well as being a part of a pair of community performances at Rogers Little Theatre.

A well-rounded studentathlete in high school, Robinson is a two-way starter who is averaging 4.8 yards per carry this season for the Lions. He averages 12.6 yards per catch and is part of an offense that is gaining 272.5-yards per contest.

On the defensive side of the ball, he is averaging 6.3 tackles per game and has six tackles for losses on the year.

“Cody plays both sides of the ball and he is a very versatile player on offense,” Kelley noted. “He can run, block and catch the ball out of the backfield. And he’s a strong young man, bench pressing 300 pounds. He’s going to be a tremendous asset to our program.”

Lyon College, which voted to reinstate the football program in June of this year, will put its first recruiting class of players on the practice fi eld in the fall of 2014, but won’t play games until the following year.
