“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” Psalm 36:9 (Read Psalm 36)

Sad to say, the people of this world do not see and understand what life is all about. Instead of seeking to honor the God who created them and gave them life, they fl atter themselves in their own eyes, and lie and deceive to cover their own sinfulness. They turn aside from wisdom and cease to do what is good and right. Instead of abhorring evil, they make evil plans even while in their beds.

Above them and out of their sight is God’s mercy and faithfulness. They don’t even see how the Lord God reaches out to them with mercy and forgiveness for the sake of Jesus Christ and His innocent sufferings and death for the sins of all. God’s mercy is in the heavens and His faithfulness reaches up into the clouds above. His righteousness - which is imputed to all who place their faith in Christ Jesus - is like the great mountains. His judgments are unfathomable like the great deep. It is the Lord God who preserves and cares for man and beast.

God’s lovingkindness toward man in Christ Jesus is so wonderful that people place their trust in the Lord God - under the shadow of His wings - and look to Him for mercy and forgiveness for the sake of Christ’s blood, shed upon the cross for the sins of the world. There, in Christ, they are protected and safe from the judgments of God coming upon the wicked and unbelieving.

With the Lord, there is life. He who gave life to man at creation, breathing into his nostrils the breath of life, gives life again in Christ Jesus when He raises us up from spiritual darkness and death to faith in Jesus. Only in the light of His truth can we see light and know the truth and the life God has provided for us in His Son.

O gracious and merciful God, shine upon us with the truth of Your Word and open our blind eyes to see Your light.
