Springtown’s council hears updates on issues

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

— The town council met on Friday, with the following action taken, according to draft minutes.

The clerk passed out a copy of the year-to-date cash flow report, current through the last day of the previous month, for the General Fund and Street Fund to each council member, mayor, and city attorney. The Clerk noted that the $157.95 received for recycled metal from the fall cleanup will be put toward park improvements per the council’s previously stated wish. Council members were also given a copy of the mayor’s proposed budget for 2014 for the General and Street funds.

Mayor Lemke reported that the work on the intersection of Highway 12 and Springtown Rd. is still in progress. The asphalt work on the approaches to the Aubrey Long Rd. Bridge will hopefully be accomplished before the end of the year. Mayor Lemke also noted that the walnuts are being picked up in the park so that they will not interfere with mowing. If the walnuts can be sold, the money will be put toward park improvements. If they cannot be sold, the walnuts will be hauled off and discarded.

Mayor Lemke reported that work is progressing on the pavilion in the park.

Lemke also reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked for clarifi cation on several items and this information will be furnished. If the town is able to retain the $30,000, it hopefully will be possible to put the money toward correcting the erosion problem on Springtown Rd.

Lemke read a letter of resignation from Alderman Jo Lynn Earley. Earley moved away from Springtown. Mayor Lemke declared Alderman, Position No. 5, to be open.

Lemke reported that the town’s yearly audit of the previous year is now underway.

Lemke also stated that work needs to be done to the parking lot at Town Hall. The area needs to be graded at this time. Next year in the spring, SB2 can be added. Lemke said he expects the cost of the grading to be no more than $2,000. A motion was made to proceed with this work and to have Vernon Reams as the person to accomplish it.
