Basketball under way in Decatur

— After weeks of practice and the end of football, it is time to take the court for some round-ball competition.

The Decatur High School basketball season began on Nov. 11, with the senior girls traveling to Green Forest to play Saint Joseph Bulldogs in the Green Forest Tournament on Nov 11.

Saint Joseph senior girls defeated Decatur, 40 to 10. Brittney Frost was the leading scorer for Decatur, with 5 points.

The next game for the senior girls and the fi rst game for the senior boys will be against the Oaks Mission Warriors on Nov. 21 in Oaks, Okla.

On Nov. 26, the senior boys and girls will play Hass Hall Academy in Fayetteville. Their fi rst home game will be in the Decatur Tournament on Dec 2 -7 at Peterson Gym.Opponent for that game has yet to be announced.

The Decatur junior high boys’ and girls’ basketball teams opened their season against the Gravette Lions at Gravette on Nov. 12.

The Decatur boys lost to Gravette, 54 to 22. Gravette outscored Decatur 8 to 6 in the fi rst quarter and 22 to 5 in the second. From then on it was all Lions. Jason Porter, Jr., was the leading scorer for Decatur, with 11 points.

In the Decatur girls’ game, Gravette dominated, winning by the score of 52 to 11. Cameron Shaffer was the leading scorer for Decatur, with 6 points.

The next game for both the Decatur junior high boys and girls will be when they travel to Berryville on Nov. 18, 21 and 23 to play in the Berryville Tournament. Their opponent for the first game has yet to be announced.
